April 8, 2017 | Rosalie Smith-Masters - Davison, MI -- USA

Maggie, Dear Maggie - one of my favorite UHS classmates. I literally and figuratively looked up to her during high school. Thank you so much Craig for bringing Maggie to our 50th. I am sorry I didn't talk with her more during reunion.
My condolences to you and your children, Craig.

February 28, 2017 | Jackie Sartoris - Brunswick, Maine -- United States

Maggie was a steadfast light during the formative years of the Teen Center, who could always be counted on to provide thoughtfulness and care for everything she did. I miss her warmth and generous gentle spirit, her intelligence and calm wit. Brunswick is indebted to her for so many quiet contributions to our community. Craig and family, thank you for sharing Maggie's many gifts. My thoughts are with you all.

February 22, 2017 | Fred and Hadley Horch - Brunswick, ME -- USA

We extend our heartfelt condolences to Craig and his family. We will miss Maggie and her gardening expertise and her kindness. With love, Hadley and Fred

February 21, 2017 | Larissa Vigue Picard - Brunswick, Maine -- USA

On behalf of the staff and board of Pejepscot Historical Society, we are so sorry for the family's loss. Maggie's contributions to our historical society as a volunteer are almost too significant to quantify. For several years she put in countless hours working on our massive collections database, processing collections, entering images and data, and do the Herculean task of developing and refining the thousands of search terms in the index. This has and will continue to benefit researchers and others for as long as PHS is around. But more importantly, she was known here for her wonderful personality, her wry wit, her unfailing kindness, her sense of commitment and interest in her work, and what a joy she was to be around. She is greatly missed. - Larissa Vigue Picard, Executive Director, PHS

I had such respect for Maggie, the librarian. In 1976 she was the director of Lisbon Falls Community Library, and I, briefly, was the director of the Goodall Library in Sanford. Throughout the late 1970s and 1980s I appreciated her insightful reviews at the monthly Southern Maine Library District children's book review meetings. In 1990 it was Maggie who told me about the upcoming 1991 job opening at Jordan Acres Elementary School, and then we were colleagues for 13 years in Brunswick. Now I am the Coffin (k-2) Elementary School librarian, in Maggie's old library, and am surrounded every school day by the wonderful collection she built over the years. She was an outstanding librarian and a national leader in reviewing books for beginning and transitional readers for School Library Journal. What a great contribution Maggie made to the education of Brunswick children. Also, I am so lucky to have won one of Maggie's perfect, small Amish style quilts that she donated to a Reading Round-Up raffle.

February 3, 2017 | Les and Sidney Hodgdon - Brunswick, Maine -- USA

Our sincere condolences to you, Craig, and to your boys. I knew Maggie mostly as a fellow master Gardner student and am sorry I didn't know her better. She seemed a gentle, bright soul and will be missed.

What a life well-lived! The McEwens' back yard, down the street from ours on MacMillan until we moved a distant block and half away, was the launch pad for many of my most memorable childhood adventures and home to the best cook-outs around in 1980's Brunswick. As a Coffin School alum who logged plenty of absorbed hours in the library, I credit Maggie in no small part for my love of reading. And the McEwen example for my more recent love of gardens--and particularly radishes. We will miss you, Maggie. I admire and am grateful for the many contributions you made. I am especially thankful for your 50+ year friendship with my parents and for paving the way out east. Craig, Ian, Kirk--you are in my thoughts daily. Love, Cathryn

Maggie was such a warm, loving lady to know. She was a dynamic force at Coffin School. It was a pleasure to get to know her when I would sub in that school. Many warm memories will continue of her wonderful personality.

We (my husband, Richard Schwartz and I) want to thank Craig and Maggie for being such tremendously wonderful friends for many years! They fought the ALS with all their might and main, and managed to be kind and gracious to their friends and helpers in the process. It was an inspiring thing to watch, and all of us can only hope that we will be one quarter as steadfast and kindly when we have to fight some terrible illness.
Maggie was a terrific friend as a child even before Craig was on the scene (and that's pretty early!) I will miss her beyond belief!
