October 19, 2015 | tom and michele himes - bailey island , maine -- usa

Winfield was a kind, patient and understanding gentleman with an enormous artistic talent. Truly a "class act". We spent almost every day with him during the many months he spent building our home on Bailey Island. In fact, one of Tom's great pleasures was working with (or more accurately, watching) him as he created our house. He was always willing to listen to ideas, share his very worthwhile thoughts, and build absolutely any structure or detail to perfection. In addition, his wonderful demeanor and endearing personality made our tasks seem much lighter. We truly enjoyed his company. He will be missed by all who knew him but we have fond memories and for some of us, his exquisitely built homes. Our condolences to the entire Libby family.

October 6, 2015 | Barbara Richards - woolwich, Maine -- United States

Dear Charlene

My heartfelt sympathy to you and your family. Winfield was the builder of my beautiful home in Woolwich, which was under construction about this time 10 years ago.
So many friends warned me against building and what a nightmare experience it would most certainly be. They didn't know Winfield, and they didn't know his crew.

His expectation for excellence was so apparent to me from the start. There was no nightmare experience, only joy as the home progressed.

I have treasured his hand written questions he needed answered for such items as trim, hardware etc. He was meticulous in every respect.

I have often thanked him in my mind for providing me with such a quality home. When I cross the threshold or rise from bed in the morning and feel the solid surface upon which I walk, I am constantly reminded of him.

Please know visitors always ask "who built your home?" I have been proud to tell them Winfield Libby. Some recognize him as one of the finest in the area; others from a distance do not. All recognize the care and extra precautions he took and are always impressed with the details.

Winfield is in my thoughts and prayers as are you and your extended family. RIP Winfield for a life well lived.

Most sincerely

Barbara

Our deepest sympathy goes out to Winfield's family. We first met him when we moved to Bath and he built our home. He was a first class carpenter and will be missed by all.

October 3, 2015 | Karen Sue Race - Brunswick, maine -- usa

We all know that there are no words that will easy the pain of loved ones passing. I hope that knowing that you all are in our thoughts and prayers will come as some comfort.
Growing up I remembered that your dad was one of the few parents that interacted with us when we were hanging out and I often thought that he was acting as much like a kid as we were.
Many Christmas I received from Mr. and Mrs. Libby a lovely pair of earrings tucked inside a very large display Bayer aspirin box with a note for from Mr. Libby informing me that he kept the aspirin to help with the head aches that we caused him....I still have that box...
Thank you, Libby family, for all the childhood memories I have of you all.
You have been in my thought and prayer the last several months and will continue.
