I can’t believe that Karole passed away 2 and a half yrs ago and I never knew. I must blame it on Covid and the inability to socialize like we did in the past.
Karole hired me for my first nursing job in 1991, that job started a 30 + year career in psychiatric nursing where Karole and I were always in contact.
She was extremely bright, had tremendous insight and most of all the ability to care about all people who crossed her path. She was a fantastic role model, co worker and leader. Any nurse who worked under Karole benefited greatly.
To her sons, I know your mother loved you more than you will ever know. Before I had children I always admired that.
I am so sorry learning about her passing so late but at least now I know and the sky will always gleam brighter knowing she is there watching out for everyone.

I extend my sincere sympathies to the family and loved ones of Karole Johnson. I recently learned of her death and was so sad to hear of her passing. I worked with Karole at Spring Harbor Hospital for ten years, but retired before she did in the fall of 2017. I remember very clearly the phone call Karole made to me ten years earlier to invite to come to the hospital for an interview after I had applied for the position of social worker there. Karole led my first interview, and showed me around the two adult units on which I would be working if hired. I liked her immediately and always looked up to her during the time that I worked at the hospital with her. She had a very professional manner about her and yet was always very warm and her caring for others was palpable. I remember when her husband died in 2012. Karole had just talked about a trip they made recently to Scandinavia (Sweden, I think....where she and Steve had family heritage and had always wanted to travel there) They had a wonderful trip, with their two sons as I recall, and she was so happy they had made that happen as a family. A group of us from Spring Harbor Hospital went to her husband's service when he died which was moving and hopefully very comforting to the family.
Karole so epitomized the caring treatment team I found myself working with at Spring Harbor Hospital. I think it was a good fit for Karole being part of that team. I know it was for me... and part of that was Karole's calming and caring presence.

I worked as a per diem Social Worker for ten years at Spring Harbor Hospital before I retired, and in every contact I had with Karole she was always kind and supportive. She told me that her faith had helped her tremendously after Stephen died, and I'll never forget that. I extend my condolences to her family. I am so sorry.

To Becky and all of Karol's family ~

Bev Anderson forwarded the information of Karol's passing to me. How accomplished she was! I know your entire family is extremely proud of her. What a fun summer we had in the cottage in Boothbay all those years ago. My deepest condolences. We know you will all miss her terribly.

Karole was truly one of the kindest, most caring and compassionate colleagues with whom I ever worked. A gentle soul, beautiful inside and out. My heart goes out to her family.

Karole was a role model, a mentor, a colleague and a friend. She taught me to listen and to be present to clients suffering from mental illness. She supported me in returning to school to obtain my masters in nursing and become a PMHNP. I will always be grateful to her and strive to continue the important work of caring for mental health clients in her name. My thoughts and prayers are with the Johnson family. Lorraine Rioux

“...unconditional calm, caring, and compassionate demeanor “. That says it all about Karole. I met her while serving on the Boards of Spring Harbor Hospital and Maine Behavioral Health. A consummate professional, she was always a go-to person for me. I trusted her expertise and candid observations. She was also highly respected by those living with mental illness and serving on our Consumer Advisory Committee, because they knew she “heard them”. I am so very sorry to learn of her early passing and join her many loved ones in mourning the loss of this wonderful woman...
