DeWitt worked for me for a number of years at the National Governors Association. He was very committed to good public policy particularly outdoor or environmental policy.He was also fun to work with as he was so honest about how he felt about issues.He also had a keen sense of humor with great eyes waiting for you to react to a comment. He will be very missed as he left a very clear impact on everyone who worked with him at NGA.

Dear Jane and family and Jennifer and family,

We are so sorry to read of Dewitt's passing.

I will always remember how friendly and personable he was at the family reunions. I remember the time that my son Seth and I were doing a college tour and called Jane and Dewitt up spur of the moment and you had just flown back from Europe and you invited us over for dinner and a tour of Bowdoin.

He will be missed by our family.

I was sorry to read of DeWitt's passing. I came to know DeWitt during his tenure at the National Governors' Association in the late 1980s. While having among the most gentle of demeanors, he was passionate about public service and the need for sound analysis to underpin all public policies. I was delighted to run into DeWitt a couple of decades later during his time at Bowdoin and to learn that age did not diminish that passion.

My thoughts are with DeWitt and his family and friends ...
