Tom was one of my favourite professors at Salisbury University

He liked me and my style of writing.

He was a great person. And I miss him greatly.

Tom was a close friend of Phil Bosserman. And Phil performed the wedding of Tom's beautiful daughter Jennifer Grantham Erskine.

I miss Tom and Phil immensely.

Tom was my first English instructor at KU. He was kind and caring -- yet a person who wanted his students to LEARN. My prayers are with his family and friends, particularly his sister Judy who lived on my floor at KU. I hope that time is healing the sorrows of his loss.

Jeff, Dr. "E" and I were cutting firewood on a beautiful fall day. As usuall Jeff and I were in a hurry, after all we were seniors in high school and had more important things to do. As we frantically hurled these large pieces of wood into the back of Dr.E's old dodge ram, he shouted "you guys better slow down or you're going to throw a piece through the back window!" Of coarse this didn't slow us down. Again he shouted and as he did... He threw a huge firelog through the back window of his beloved dodge ram! We all laughed all the way home! Thanks Dr. E for all the laughs...U will be missed!

September 6, 2011 | Dean DeFino - Parsonsburg, MD -- USA

All of us at S.U. will miss him very much. He was an inspiration to us all.

September 1, 2011 | James Hatley - Salisbury, MD -- USA

Tom holds a special place in my heart. The memory of his generosity and totally mischevious sense of humor will not fade as long as I am on the planet. Co-teaching a course with him his last semester at Salisbury was an absolute hoot.

September 1, 2011 | Pam Penuel - Salisbury, Maryland -- US

Dr. Erskine was one of the most lovable faculty members that came into the Registrar's Office.

September 1, 2011 | Sandy Ramses - Salisbury, Md -- USA

When Dr. Erskine was here at SU I always enjoyed seeing him across campus -always smiling and waving to people he knew. He was such a delightful person, so kind and just had such a great spirit about him. He will be truly missed.

What a wonderful mind, vast heart and supremely kind soul -- to have Tom in your life is to be greatly, and lastingly, enriched.

We join the circle of family and friends, heads bowed in the sadness of parting, and then faces uplifted with smiles of remembrance.

July 8, 2011 | Susan Furrow Cusack - Burlington, NJ -- USA

Words have immense power. Over 25 years ago a few simple words from Tom helped change the course of my life. Now, words are too feeble to express what is in my heart. Tom, may the angels lead you into paradise and may God bring peace and solace to those who loved you.

July 8, 2011 | Janet Dudley-Eshbach - Salisbury, Maryland -- USA

Tom will long be remembered by the many lives he touched at Salibury University. He is fondly remembered by former students and faculty colleagues. He was a role model for many.

My heartfelt condolences to his family.

July 7, 2011 | Ray Daisey - Pocomoke, Maryland -- USA

To the Erskine family, although I do not know any of you, I knew Dr. Erskine during my time at Salisbury. When I transferred into SSC he was assigned as my advisor and I enjoyed meeting and talking with him up to and even after I graduated. While I remember his humor and point of view, probably my best memory is that he always had time for me and my fellow students. He was never too busy to stop and help us out. I was unaware he had retired until reading this. I still fondly remember those Wednesday night Literature and Film classes! Please accept my heartfelt condolences on your loss.

How sad to read of Tom's death. He was an amazing teacher and good man. I will miss him greatly. My heart goes out my friends, Edna, Jennifer and Kathy. May your pain be lessened by good memories. Love to you all.

July 4, 2011 | Mrs. Sylvia Peters Chiofolo - Salisbury, Maryland -- USA

Dear Loved Ones of Thomas Erskine: I was very sorry to learn of Tom's passing; but assume that it was welcome relief for him from any further suffering from his illness. I had the privilege of meeting Tom when I began classes at Salisbury Univ. as an "older student" 1979 and was encouraged to take only a couple of classes the first semester; Tom's English class was one of the first that I selected. I always looked forward to attending that class and have pleasant memories of Tom as one of my favorite instructors. Tom will be greatly missed; but with time, the grief will become less difficult. It is my desire to attend the memorial service for him Sept.10th in Salisbury, Lord willing! In the meantime, you all will continue to be in my thoughts and prayers.
In Christ's Love, Sylvia Peters Chiofolo

My dear old f--- friend Tom is now at peace! I have many many fond memories of Tom as the great father to Pete and Jeff during our years in Newark,Delaware: the fun guy he was at the numerous outdoor/indoor dinners/picnics on Park Drive, and our many visits to Salisbury,MD to visit Tom and Sue; and especially Tom's kindness to my family during our time of great need years ago. Tom, I will cherish the fond memories I have; only memories live on forever. XX... Karin

Dear Edna, There are no words that heal the loss of a loved one. Know that you are loved and he is missed.

I carried the book you loaned me through out our trip, and thought of you both while I was in Petra. I hope your memories of beautiful Jordan will lighten your heart during this time.

Your sister in Christ,
-Beth

Tom was a great friend to many people. I am honored to have gone to Bowdoin with him. I wish his surviving family well. I have experienced a loss as a result of cancer and I do not wish it on anyone.

June 28, 2011 | Bill Witham - San Antonio, Texas -- USA

Tom and I were close friends through grammar school and High School. We were football teammates and classmates.

One always knew Tom would succed. He was a brilliant student then and a truly down to earth guy.

God bless you Tom. I know you will be with Him in his heavenly house now.

Lord, bless Tom's family in their days of mourning!
WE will miss you Tom!
Bill

June 27, 2011 | Mickey Coughlin - Deer Harbor, WA -- USA

When Tom and Dick Clarey and I roomed together sophomore year at Bowdoin, Tom and I were fairly naive boys from Maine delving into the bigness of what was out there. I knew him from the Cony-Winslow football games we played against each other over four years, and when we beat them with less than a minute to go our senior year, Tom never let me forget for these more than 50 years that the refs cheated in our (my) behalf. Tom went on to be one of the kindest and brightest yet unaffected men I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. We have all lost a good man. Edna, you are an angel and were his rock during all this. May God watch over both you and Tommy. And, God, I have to tell you I think the refs didn't read their watches correctly.

June 27, 2011 | Stephanie Reyes - corpus christi, texas -- us

Please accept my sincere condolences for the loss of your loved one. This is one of the most difficult things we must face in this life. May it comfort you to know that others are deeply touched by your loss. But the bible assures us at Psalms 34:18 that God is near to those broken in heart and those crushed in spirit he saves. He also promises that we will be able to see our loved ones again. Jesus own words found at John 5:28,29 tells us there will be a resurrection. What a wonderful hope! He also says that soon on the earth there will be no more pain, suffering and especially death. Revelation 21:3-5 We anxiously await the day when we will no longer lose those we love. May these bible thoughts bring you comfort at this most difficult time.

June 27, 2011 | Jo Ann Ellis - Irving, Texas -- USA

We were sadden to hear the news of our dear friend, Tom. We send our sympathy to all the family and our thoughts and prayers are with you. We have many fond memories of the great trips, visits, and growing up together in Salisbury. Those were wonderful years.
Love, Jo Ann and Buzz Ellis
